Rieger Creek Lodge South Dakota

About

Five Generations on This Land.

Steve's family homesteaded this property in the 1880s. He's the fourth generation to call it home. Rieger Creek Lodge didn't come from a real estate deal or a business plan. It grew out of a family that wanted to share a place they love.

It started as a wooden granary on the creek. When it outgrew that, Steve and Christine bought the old Star Theater in downtown Selby, a 1950s movie house that sat empty for years. Then they added the building next door and found brick walls and original ceiling structure inside. That became the lodge you see today.

Steve & Christine

Steve and Christine Sawinsky own and operate the lodge. Veteran-owned, community-rooted, and genuinely hands-on. Christine has an eye for detail that shows up everywhere, from the interior design to the food to how guests feel when they arrive.

Rieger Creek runs through the property toward the Missouri River, feeding shelter belts, sloughs, native grasses, CRP fields, food plots, and creek bottoms. Water everywhere, trees, real habitat. It's a beautiful setup that holds birds and keeps every day in the field feeling different.

Justin Bauman has been the head guide at Rieger Creek for 17 years. Some of his groups have been coming back for 15. That kind of loyalty doesn't happen by accident. It means the experience is consistently worth repeating, and that's the only review that matters.

Every booking at Rieger Creek is private. Your guide, your land, your dogs. No strangers, no other parties, no compromises. Most lodges mix groups to fill capacity. We never do. For groups of 14 or more, the entire lodge is exclusively yours. Smaller groups enjoy multiple dedicated spaces across the property, so your group always has room to be on its own.

Lodging, meals, a professional guide, trained dogs, bird processing, and field transportation are all included. There's no coordinating vendors, no surprise fees, no logistics to manage. You show up with your gun and your crew. We take care of everything else.

Steve's family homesteaded this property in the 1880s. Five generations have called it home. Steve and Christine's daughter Jayda has now joined the operation, working the land, building food plots, and learning the property from the ground up just like those before her. That kind of roots-deep connection shows up in every hunt, in where the birds are, how the terrain shifts, and why groups keep coming back year after year.

Rieger Creek Lodge is proudly veteran owned and operated by Christine and Steve Sawinsky. That background shows up in how the place is run. Attention to detail, genuine hospitality, and a standard of care that doesn't cut corners.

The Rieger Creek Den started as a wooden granary and now lives inside what was once the old Star Theater in downtown Selby. Original brick walls, real history, prime rib on the table every night. It's not a hotel with a hunting package bolted on. It's a place worth coming back to.
